Database Backend - Between Ground and Clouds

Summary: The choice of the database backend is one of the most important tasks during system design stage. This session compares various options available to users, such as on-premises SQL Server installation; Windows Azure SQL Database; Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and Amazon Relation Database Service (RDS). It analyzes pros, cons and platform limitations for different types of the systems, architecture and design requirements for each platform and discusses conversion of the systems from one platform to another.

About Dmitri: Dmitri Korotkevitch is a Microsoft SQL Server MVP, MCITP (Database Developer, DBA) and MCPD. He has 16 years of experience in the industry including more than 10 years working with Microsoft SQL Server. Dmitri is Director of Development at Actsoft, a Tampa, FL based company developing Data collection, GPS Tracking and Mobile Workforce Management solutions. He is responsible for the architecture, design and development of the database backend handling a sustained load of 3,000 transactions per second.
